It
must be remembered that the Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires
was the emitting agent of the Province of Buenos Aires between
1822 and 1891, when it put into circulation the first Argentine
and Uruguayan bank notes.
For this reason, it is extremely interesting to become acquainted
with its historical archives and its numismatic and documentary
collections. In 1870, the history of the Bank began to be studied,
and in 1903, it was decided to classify and catalogue documentation
until 1885. One year later, the first historical museum was inaugurated,
as well as the first Argentine banking museum. The exhibition
included documents, coins, bank notes, metal plates for printing
bank notes, xylographs, plates, dies, lithographic stones, and
commemorative medals.
The museum changed premises on several occasions, until it was
permanently established as the "Dr. Arturo Jáuretche" historical
archives and museum. Dr Jáuretche was a former chairman of the
institution. Inauguration took place on May 17, 1984. The exhibition
displays significant documents, such as the banks founding charter,
checks and accounting books, institutional medals, photographs
of old buildings, pieces of furniture, and even a small platen
press. The museum also has a hall for temporal exhibitions.
