This
Museum is basically of medical and legal interest, and plays a
permanent educational role for professionals attending the higher
course for forensic experts, as well as university students from
the Law and Medicine Schools, students attending schools of the
Federal Police, Penal Institutes, National Border Guard Corps,
and Coast Guards, in addition to high school students accompanied
by their Hygiene and Biology teachers. It has been named after
Dr Juan Bautista Bafico, who increased the wealth of the museum
during his term as director from 1927 to 1950.
Anatomica1pieces obtained from autopsies conducted by forensic
experts, with cases selected for their particular interest from
a forensic medical, toxicological, scientific, legal, criminal
or police point of view, have gradually increased the wealth of
the Museum. Most of the material is exhibited in transparent glass
vats containing adequate preserving solutions. An adequate presentation
prevents visitors from experiencing repulsion that could impair
an adequate appreciation of the exhibits. Since its creation,
the museum has provided pieces for educational purposes, thus
satisfying one of its objectives and the main reason for its existence.
Anatomic material, related to injuries with a forensic medical
interest, is complemented by a large collection of photographs.
A visit to the museum is particularly useful for future forensic
experts.
