This
is one of the four museums of its kind in the world. As from August
14, 1997, its name was changed to Museum of the Federal Administration
of Public Income, thus unifying the General Customhouse Administration
and the General Tax Bureau. It is located in the former "Majestic"
Hotel, the interior decoration of which evokes the "belle époque".
The material is exhibited in eight rooms.
In the Evocative Room, photographs of former directors are exhibited.
One of them was Roberto M. Ortiz, later President of the country.
There is a detailed description of taxes over the passage of time.
In our country, the Administration of Internal Revenue Taxes was
created in 1891 upon the initiative of president Pellegrini and
his minister Vicente Fidel López. Material related to the foundation
of the former Income, as Bureau, as well as material connected
with collection methods alternate with 19th century European bibliography.
The Humanitas Room is devoted to the description of the work performed
by the General Tax Bureau through dossiers, credential cards and
personal mementoes of the presence in the institution of personalities
such as Alfredo Palacios, Ricardo Molinari, Agustín Magaldi and
Gabino Coria Peñaloza, amongst others.
Forged products are exhibited, as well as the materials employed
in making them, in addition to the equipment used in the different
stages of the work carried out by the tax bureau. The nostalgic
touch is given by pieces and objects that belonged to the "Majestic"
Hotel, where the Spanish Princess Isabel, Marconi, the inventor,
Minister Clemenceau, the dancer Nijinsky, and writer Saint Exupery
stayed. The period corner depicts life in an office back in 1932.
