In
December 1987, a law that had been passed many years before was
finally put into effect upon the initiative of Representatives
Pastor and Guardo. Juan Carlos Pugliese inaugurated the Museum
"for the remembrance of all those illustrious men who have been
members of the House of Representatives, lawfully carrying out
popular will, and who have contributed towards the prestige of
argentine political life within the framework of democracy".
Located right above the "Hall of Lost Steps", the Museum harbors
a permanent exhibition. Portraits of Presidents line the walls.
The display includes a wide assortment of objects including Alfredo
L. Palacio´s three-edged foil, soft wide rimmed hat and shawl;
an inkpot belonging lo Ricardo Balbín Juan B. Justo bowler hat;
L.N. Alem´s walking stick handkerchief and keys; a pen belonging
lo Arturo Illia; a letter from Bartolomé Mitre through which he
donates 90 copies of his "History of San Martín"; a candelabrum
belonging to Vicente López y Planes; sundry presidential messages
and decorations; a letter from Nicolás Avellaneda; Rubén Rabanal´s
eyeglasses, etc.
Exhibits also include pieces of furniture dating back lo 1906
- a bench with a microphone - and the first printing machine owned
by Congress, as well as the first small telephone switchboard,
tableware from the Dining Room, and several objects of art donated
by Representatives.
