In
1929, Rosario Vera Peñaloza, a sculptress, artist, engraver, and
teacher from the Province of La Rioja, deservedly called "the
epitome of Argentine teachers", created the artistic and cultural
foundations of the First Argentine Museum for elemental schools,
nowadays known as the Museological Complex of the "Félix Bernasconi
Institute, with its geographical and natural science museums.
This vast wealth was subsequently enlarged thanks to the indefatigable
and unremunerated work of its founder.
The Geographical Museum has different halls devoted to geological
eras, fossil remains, aspects of soil, pottery, numismatics, collections
of medals, provincial coats of arms, Argentine folklore, a rural
store, and the "pulpería" (Spanish American rural grocery store
and drinking establishment) La Surtida.
The Museum of natural Sciences exhibits a section on zoology,
including vertebrates and invertebrates; natural habitats ; aquatic
communities; mineralogy and rooms devoted to education focussed
on health, featuring the different systems and senses of the human
body.
