Though
there are similar institutions, this Museum was the first of its kind
in the world. It was founded by a Ministerial Resolution on August 17,
1976. The plenipotentiary minister, Carlos Dellepiane, was the author
of the project and its director.
It offers an insight into the history of argentine diplomacy and foreign
policy. Exhibits include diplomatic uniforms, foreign and argentine decorations,
medals, documents, letters, credential letters, treaties, iconography,
weapons, pieces of furniture, etc. The Museum harbors a valuable trove
of items that reflect the history of the Argentine Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, enrich Argentine diplomatic traditions and contribute towards
defining its personality.
Amongst its most noteworthy items are the inkpot that belonged to General
Tomás Guido, which he used when peace was signed with the Brazilian Empire;
Eduardo Costa's silver and crystal writing case; a ceremonial sword and
decorations that belonged to Roberto Levillier, historian and diplomat,
and Luis Podestá Costa's decorations.
