The chair of Pathological Anatomy was created in 1887, and Dr.
Telémaco Susini was appointed full professor. It was he who organized
a space for the museum that contains anatomic pieces proceeding
from the autopsies performed at the Clinical Hospital.
Since 1992, this internationally renowned museum has incorporated
human pathological anatomic pieces preserves in formol, 2,000
of which are on exhibition whilst a similar amount is in the deposit,
distributed on two floors and systematically classified by apparatus
and by large pathological processes. Exhibits include virtually
all existing pathologies, following their natural evolution, and
include extinct or exotic pathologies (smallpox, yellow fever
etc.).
There are also exhibits of spontaneous and experimental animal
pathological anatomic pieces. The museum also houses a historical
library equipped with books on Pathology and general medicine,
including collections pertaining to the different subjects.
