This
museum is located right next to the Centinela Building belonging
to the National Border Guards Corps. The first exhibition room
was inaugurated in 1985, after which three other rooms were successively
opened. Work was completed in 1987.
In Room 1, known as the "Brigadier General Manuel María Calderón"
Room, records of the primitive General Border Guards Bureau are
exhibited. Several showcases contain preliminary documents and
the Golden Book in which the names of the institutions members
who died while on duty are recorded. A stone bust of General Güemes
is flanked by a series of flags, and there are mementoes that
evoke the border corps existing in the Viceroyalty of the Río
de la Plata, as well as the Regulated Militia, and the Frontier
Guards. A huge 70 litre iron pot known as "La Morocha" attracts
the visitors attention.
In Room II, known as "Major Inspector Marcelo Barbieri", records
are exhibited of the work performed by the institution in the
provinces of Formosa, Chaco and Misiones, as well as the criminal
histories of people like Tata Miño and Bairoleto, in addition
to communication elements.
In Room III, known as "Major General Arturo Lopetegui ", there
are elements pertaining to the Technical and Expert Department,
unit badges, a railcar and uniforms of similar corps in other
countries.
In Room IV known as "Sergeant Ramón G. Acosta " - who died heroically
in the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) - exhibits include ships,
supply carts, a replica of an infirmary, a blacksmiths workshop,
and aviation souvenirs of this institution in charge of guarding
the country´s frontiers.
Room V was inaugurated in 1994. On exhibition is one of the first
patrol cars used by this Institution, a 1939 Chevrolet sedan,
a Unimog truck, and a Decauville motor-driven railway coach that
belonged to "Las Palmas" squadron.
