Notary "Roberto Arata" Museum

This museum was inaugurated on October 2, 1973, and was founded by the Association of Notaries Public of the Province of Buenos Aires. Reproductions of deeds are exhibited, together with old law books related to the activities carried out by notaries public; reproductions on wax tablets of cuneiform writing and hieroglyphics; utensils used for writing; a collection of sealing wax sticks to seal public documents; old typewriters, paintings and notarial letters. Some of these letters date back to 1552, and there are also deeds of marital agreements delivered in Italy (1519); notarial letters on parchment (1569); different types of calligraphy used in deeds dated in 1799, and Spanish documents dating back to 1617 and the 18th century. The library houses notarial bibliography dated before and after the Independence, bibliography consulted by Dalmacio Vélez Sársfield to prepare the Civil Code, and its first edition (1870). The Museum was named after its donor and founder, Notary Public Roberto Mario Arata, and contains approximately 300 exhibits.
