A
prestigious ophthalmologist from the Province of Entre Ríos, Mr.
Humberto Pérez, founded this private museum on May 25, 1977, after
having collected eloquent testimonies of the history of Optics.
It is a know fact that the use of eyeglasses can be seen in different
lights. It may indicate a certain social status - actual need
considerations aside - or it may be a sign of disablement. Fashion
also plays a role in this. It is therefore interesting to observe
neat showcases exhibiting different types of eyeglasses, Tenses,
monocles, and lorgnettes, the latter having been initially used
by ladies. Undoubtedly, eyeglasses dating back to last century
are extremely attractive exhibits since they are works of art
made by jewelers, with gold and silver inlays. There are also
binoculars, and opera and sport glasses, with ivory, mother-of-pearl
and gold inlays. The exhibition includes a pirate's telescope
dating back to the late 18th century.
It is also interesting to observe surgical instruments made of
bone and ivory in ancient times. Also on exhibition are sundry
measuring and marksmanship items used during the First World War.
