This museum is housed in the Neogothic building belonging to the
School of Engineering of the University of Buenos Aires. A visit
to the museum offers an insight into the past, present and future
of engineering. Exhibits include old the odolites used during
geodesic campaigns carried out at the turn of the century in our
country, and a practical demonstration of the Pythagorean Theorem.
There is a complete collection of calculators starting off by
a Chinese abacus and ending up in a miniature solar powered calculator.
There are scale models of the fastest trains in the world, and
there is also a scale model of a steam engine with its driving
wheel complete with piston in movement.
There is also an area in the museum devoted to oil prospecting.
One can touch the drills used in the oil industry to drill through
the Earths crust. One can also contemplate - and partake in the
amazement experienced by the people of the time - the experiment
performed by Foucault to demonstrate the rotation of the Earth.
This is the only demonstration of its kind in all Latin America.
To finish off, one can observe an exact replica of the lamp invented
by Thomas Edison.
Temporary exhibitions of different topics are offered during the
year.
