Urbania, Museum for Children

Corrientes 3247
Tel. 4312-9485 / 4312-9486

This Museum functions in a section of the building that housed the old wholesale market ("Mercado de Abasto") which is currently a Shopping Center. It covers a surface of approximately 3,500 m2 that houses a hall for permanent exhibitions, another hall for temporary exhibitions, an auditorium, a library, a media library, workshops and a multimedia center. This Museum is designed to become an entertainment and informal learning center aimed at bringing children and adults into contact with issues concerning the city through exhibitions and information on fundamental aspects of our urban culture. It is aimed particularly at children between 3 and 12 years of age, and through them, at the community as a whole. The main objectives pursued by this Museum consist in offering the community an innovative environment, an educational and recreational alternativa that enables visitors to experience new learning methods. It is also aimed at promoting a process of reflection and critical thought arising out of a visit to the museum, that awakens in children a commitment towards their city and the world at large, in addition to stirring their interest in the functioning of the physical and social structures that are the foundations of city life.
Based on state of the art museological approaches, Urbania combines multiple spaces and activities, offering visitors an alternative that goes beyond the mere traditional observation of exhibits: this is an open, active and stimulating museum that recovers the everyday living culture of the city.
