In addition to being one of the most important monuments in the City of Buenos Aires, and one of the buildings with the most distinctive characteristics, the Running Water Building, current headquarters of the waterworks company Aguas Argentinas, harbors a considerable part of the architectural and sanitary history of the city. One can get acquainted with this history by visiting its Museum, an institution that carries on and enlarges the work initiated by the "Museum of artifacts" created by the National Waterworks company years ago. There are objects on exhibition that describe the origins of this spectacular building, such as enameled pieces imported from Great Britain to line its fountains, the plans of the original architectural project and its monumental interior metallic tanks.
There are also old sanitary fixtures, pipes and pieces used since the beginning of the century in city homes, together with scale models, period advertisements, and some of the first approved plans of sanitary installations in the capital city.
The work carried out by this Museum is developed within the framework of the Historical Wealth Program arising out of the agreement entered into between Aguas Argentinas and Conicet (National Council for Scientific and Technical Research). Ii is aimed at increasing awareness of the city's cultural wealth by its own inhabitants, in addition to strengthening the knowledge and memories of the past acquired by the company throughout its history.
