• AVENIDA DE MAYO
It is interesting to see the variety of cupolas and different building styles of this loving main road leading into Plaza de Mayo (Mayo Square). There you can see the Pirámide de Mayo (Mayo Pyramid), which commemorates the independence of the first Argentine government. Other important buildings are the Cabildo (town hall of colonial times), Palacio del Gobierno de la Ciudad (Municipal Executive Building), the Cathedral and the Casa Rosada (Government House), presidency seat of the Argentine Republic. Nearby, you can find the "Manzana de las Luces", a group of buildings related to Argentine history and culture. To the river, the renewed Puerto Madero is worth visiting.

  • FROM AVENIDA DE MAYO TO SAN MARTIN SQUARE
Starting from Corrientes Avenue, centre of Buenos Aires nightlife, you can see the Obelisk, symbol of the city. Further beyond, you can find Lavalle Street with its cinemas and Florida Street with its shops. In front of San Martín square, there are some of the most representative buildings of Buenos Aires. From the highest spot, you can see the intense activity of Retiro (Buenos Aires Train Station).

• The picturesque neighbourhood of La Boca
This is the district in which the first Genoese immigrants settled. Stroll down Caminito Street and go by "La Bombonera" football stadium which is the headquarters of the Boca Juniors Football Club where perhaps you can watch a match against their eternal rival, River Plate.

• RECOLETA
An elegant and exclusive neighbourhood with its green streets, cafés and restaurants, antique shops, a cultural centre and the Cementerio del Norte (known as La Recoleta Cemetery), a museum of history and sculpture.

• Palermo
This is one of the largest and most attractive parts of the city because of its parks and tree lined avenues. The district has three interesting routes which are worth visiting: Palermo de Bosques y Lagos (Palermo of Woods and Lakes); Palermo Chico (Small Palermo), the Zoo, the Botanical Garden and the city property of the Sociedad Rural; and Palermo Viejo (Old Palermo), with a nostalgic atmosphere, which is better knows as the Palermo of Borges and Carriego. The enthusiasm for horses is witnessed at the Argentinean Racetrack and in polo tournaments or a game of "pato" a genuine Argentinean sport, both played at the Polo field.

• San Telmo
One of the oldest parts with renovated colonial houses where artists and artisans live in. There are many tango dance halls here and the picturesque Antique Fair of San Pedro Telmo is held every Sunday in the Plaza Dorrego.

• Colón Theatre
It is amongst the most famous in the world and has a magnificent programme of Opera and Ballet.

The myth of Gardel
Retrace his footsteps in the neighbourhood of the Abasto market - actually a shopping centre - and visit his grave in La Chacarita cemetery. His voice can be heard everywhere.

Other places of interest
If you still have time, go and see the elegant and quiet neighbourhood of Belgrano, the once busy Costanera Sur and its current Ecological Reserve. You can also go to the The Obelisk, Plaza de Mayo, Manzana de las Luces (Block of Ligths) and Puerto Madero, amongst others.
