This
museum was created in December 1993. The building that houses it
dates back to the second half of last century and was built by the
architect Luis Caravatti who also designed the most important buildings
in the city. It was originally Caravatti´s home, was later occupied
by the Municipality and finally by the provincial Civil Registry.
Its collection of exhibits offers insight into the history of the
city and its urban and architectural development. There are also
objects that depict regional customs and manners, whilst others
describe the history of photography, the development of the printing
press and the history of trade unions. There is also a sundry collection
of objects for everyday use.
San
Fernando del Valle de Catamarca
The capital of the province is located 1,145km. away from the city
of Buenos Aires and 520m. above sea level. To get to this city from
Buenos Aires one must take national route No. 9 up to Córdoba and
then carry on down national route No. 60. The city is definitely
colonial in style and its main attractions are its temples and convents,
the most outstanding of which is the convent of San Francisco. The
site known as Cuesta del Portezuelo is very near the city and offers
a panoramic view of the entire valley.
