This
museum occupies a hall inside the School of Humanities of the National
University of the Northwest and amongst its most treasured exhibits
there are hand axes hoes carved in stone belonging to the Altoparanaense
(Upper Paraná) culture. There are also several archaeological pieces
from the colonial city of Concepción del Bermejo that existed between
1585 and 1632, and large bags made of chaguar (hemp fiber) used
by the Mataco Indians for collecting wild fruit. Exhibits also include
archaeological and ethnographic pieces discovered in the Chaco region
and in other neighboring areas, ceramic vessels, fabrics of vegetable
fibers and wool, wickerwork weapons made of wood and musical instruments.
Resistencia
Resistencia is the capital of the province of Chaco and is located
1,020 km. away from the Federal Capital. To reach Resistencia from
Buenos Aires one must travel down national route No.9 up to its
intersection with national route No.11, and then turn towards the
North down this route. Resistencia is known as the city of sculptures
since its public parks and streets are adorned with a large number
of sculptures. A sculpture competition is held here every year and
is the meeting place for thousands artists from all over the country.
Resistencia stands on the banks of the Negro River 7km. away from
the point where it meets the Paraná River. It is only 22km. away
from the city of Corrientes which one can get to by crossing the
General Manuel Belgrano bridge.
