The
Jesuitical Reduction of Yapeyś was founded in 1626, and this museum
harbors remnants of that period. In the park surrounding the museum
there are large lithic pieces including columns, stones from the
dry-stone walls and a sun clock made of stone. Inside the building
there are 5 halls containing bases of columns, octagonal bricks,
grinding wheels and keys belonging to iron and bronze padlocks.
The Jesuit church formely stood on this site. An image of the Dark
Virgin, the patron saint of Yapeyś, that belonged to this church,
is on display in the museum.
Yapeyś
The town of Yapeyś stands as a landmark in Argentine history since
it was the birthplace of General San Martķn. It is located 380km
