This
museum operates in a building dating from 1894 and comprises six
halls harboring permanent exhibitions and one for temporary exhibitions.
Martín Noel made a donation to the province of his project for the
neocolonial façade of the building plateresque style (dissociated
from the colonial style prevalent in Corrientes). Its halls house
an important collection of images of sacred art from the 18th and
19th centuries. The flag from the battle of Caaguazú waged in 1841
is amongst its most ptized possessions, together with a lock of
hair belonging to Governor Berón de Astrada from 1839, 18th century
door carved by the Indians from the Jesuitical school, a stone shield
dating from 1826 that was placed in the first Government House,
and some 18th century wooden candelabra that belonged to San Cosme
de Itatí and Santa Ana (Saints).
Corrientes
The city of Corrientes, located on the banks of the Paraná River
is the capital of the province of Corrientes- It lies 860km -Way
from the Federal Capital. In order to get there from Buenos Aires,
one must travel down national route No. 9 up to its intersection
with national route No. 12. One must then take this route to Cross
the Zarate-Brazo Largo railway complex and then carry on down it
up to Corrientes. Amongst the attractions worth visiting are the
convents of San Francisco (st. Francis) and de la Merced (of Mercy),covered
with Carrara marble, and the church of the Holy Cross of Miracles.
