This
center comprises two halls devoted to the history of Yapeyú and
of General San Martín. It occupies a very old construction built
with stones from the times of the Jesuits. Its base and foundations
date from the Jesuitical period and its floors are original. They
are over 300 years old and square bricks were used to make them.
The halls exhibit maquettes and replicas of the Andes flag (flag
used by San Martín when he crossed the Andes into Chile) and of
the the first Spanish flag to wave in America.
Yapeyú
The town of Yapeyú stands as a landmark in Argentine history since
it was the birthplace of General San Martín. It is located 380km
away from the city of Corrientes down national routes No.12, 123
and 14. This town was originally a Jesuitical reduction.
