"El
Porvenir" Regional Museum
Located
on the extension of Chorroarín Boulevard in the area of country
houses.
Open every day from 10 to 12:30 a.m.,
and during the afternoons in winter time from 2 to 6 p.m.
In summer time from 4 to 8 p.m.
This
museum operates in what used to be the farm belonging to Héctor
de Elía, the founder of Villa Elisa. The building dates from 1885,
and was declared a Municipal Historic Monument in 1990. It harbors
objects of everyday life, kitchen utensils, furniture, clothing,
porcelain, musical instruments, farm tools and old-fashioned cars
and carriages. It also has a pavilion devoted to natural sciences
in which birds, mammals and reptiles are displayed in recreated
natural environments. Its park spreads over two hectares and has
a mini zoo with autochthonous and exotic animals such as pheasants,
peacocks, ñandúes (American ostriches), southern screamers and other
wild birds.
