This
museum was founded in 1944 and is the seat of the Center for Regional
Historical Studies of San Salvador. It comprises six exhibition
halls, a quincho (thatched roof construction) and a pulpería. Its
halls harbor the furniture that belonged to the family of the founder
of the town Miguel Malarín as well as a collection of fans, porcelain
mates (gourds) and lamps of old-fashioned carriages. There is also
a hall devoted to sacred art with 19th century images carved in
wood. The museum also preserves a large assortment of war material
from the battle of Arroyo Grande when Oribe at the head of the Ejército
Grande (Great Army) confronted Ribera. It also has a replica of
magarinhos' pulpería, a forced stop on the route to the Jesuitical
missions. On display in another of its halls is the bed that belonged
to López Jordán.
