Its
show cases contain archaeological material from a vast area of the
littoral region. Many of the sites where these pieces were recovered
are nowadays under the waters of the Salto Grande lake. Exhibits
include lithic material, pottery a bone fragments. Amongst the lithic
objects on display, there is an assortment ranging from large artifacts
carved by percussion to minute projectile points manufactured by
pressure flaking. Amongst the ceramic pieces on exhibition there
are container with grooved decorations typical traditional Tupi-Guaraní
Guaraní-Jesuitical ceramic. Bone fragments include the lower jaw
of a mastodon discovered in the department of Colón which is over
500,000 years old.
Concordía
Concordia is located on the banks of the Uruguay River distant 267km.
from the city of Paraná down national routes No.18 and 14. Sites
worth visiting are the Cathedral of St. Anthony of Padua, the Rivadavia
Park and the ruins of San Carlos Palace, erected in 1888 and destroyed
a fire in 1938. The Salto Grande is 20km away from the city while
El Palmar National Park is at a distance of 70km.
