Open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8 to 12:30 a.m.
and from 2 to 6 p.m.; Sundays from 9 to 12 a.m.
This
museum was created in1917and its four halls exhibit 105.000 representative
pieces of regional flora, fauna, geography and paleontology, in
addition to archaeological and ethnographic objects. It also harbours
a valuable library specialized in Natural Sciences and Anthropology
comprising over 40,000 volumes. This museum has one of the most
important collections of birds in the country. Exhibits include
material evidence of the nomad hunter cultures of the region, in
addition to objects that belonged to hybrid cultures of pampean
('pámpidos') and lake region ('láguidos) Indians [Translator´s note:
allegedly amongst the oldest inhabitants of the Americas according
to one of the racial typologies. Name derives from remains found
in Lagoa Santa, Brazil], the Goya and Guaraní cultures, and ethnographic
material from the Chaco region, the northwest, Patagonia and neighboring
countries such as Paraguay, Brazil, Peru and Colombia.
Paraná
The city of Paraná lies on the banks of the River Paraná and is
the capital of the Province of Entre Ríos. It is located 520km away
from the Capital City. Upon leaving the Capital City one must travel
down national route No. 9 up to Zarate, then cross the Zarate Brazo
Largo Railroad Complex and take national route no. 12 up to Gualeguay
where one must switch to provincial route No.11. Another option
is to travel to the city of Santa Fe down national routes No. 9
and 11 and then cross the Hernandarias Underwater Tunnel. In addition
to the city´s museums, one can also visit the Cathedral facing the
Plaza 1° de Mayo (1st of May Square), built in Renaissance style,
that harbors relics such as an image of Our Lady of the Rosary dating
from 1730 and declared pontifical. It also houses bells brought
from the Jesuitical missions. Another attraction is the Urquiza
Park designed by Carlos Thays, that spreads over 25 hectares alongside
the sloping river banks.
