This
museum was created in 1957 to commemorate the 100th anniversary
of the establishment of the San José Colony, the first agricultural
colony founded by Justo José de Urquiza in 1857 during his presidency.
This settlement was peopled by French, Swiss and Italian immigrants.
When the 100th anniversary was celebrated, the organizing committee
asked each of the colony members to donate their most treasured
objects to set up the museum which harbors an important collection
of cars, farm machines and tools such as plows, rakes, scythes and
shoes, items used in the preparation of liquor wine and milk products,
an important collection of portraits of immigrants and their families,
articles of everyday life such as clothing, tableware, ornamental
objects, articles of worship and musical instruments, and an important
archive on the history of the colony.
