This
museum harbors some pieces of furniture that belonged to lieutenant
colonel Jorge Fontana the founder of the city, 19th century military
uniform and photographs of the first inhabitants of Formosa. One
of its halls is devoted to the body of frontier police in charge
of guarding the provincial border and other typical 19th century
articles such as coffee grinders, Indian handicraft, the province's
first flag and old documents. There are also fossil remains discovered
in the area. The museum also houses the Historical Archives of Formosa,
and the building it occupies was the first government house in the
province (1888), the construction of which was ordered by the governor's
cousin who was of English descent.
Formosa
The city of Formosa, capital of the province of Formosa, is situated
on the right bank of the Paraguay River and on national route No.11.
It is 1,188km distant from the city of Buenos Aires. To get there
from this city one must travel down national route No.9 until its
intersection with national route No.11. Amongst the attractions
the city has to offer are its Handicraft Market, the Government
House and the riverside.
