Huacalera
is located 100km. away from the city of San Salvador de Jujuy
and 2,641m. above sea level. This town is practically situated
on the Tropic of Capricorn and is connected to San Salvador
de Jujuy by route No. 9. The "Posta de Huacalera" (Huacalera
Post Station) was the oldest establishment dating from colonial
times, and the school, which is still standing, dates back
to 1825. The colonial windmill built by the Jesuits, and the
Pucará de Molla (fortress) are its most outstanding landmarks.
