architecture and harbors paintings from the Cuzco school such as
"Betrothal of the Vrirgin". It was here that Juan Lavalle´s flesh
was stripped off his body, his viscera were buried in the site known
as Cerro Chico, while his bones were taken to Potosí and his Herat
remained here, in an earthenware vessel.
Huacalera
Huacalera is located 100km. away from the city of San Salvador de
Jujuy and 2,641m. above sea level. This town is practically situated
on the Tropic of Capricorn and is connected to San Salvador de Jujuy
by route No. 9. The "Posta de Huacalera" (Huacalera Post Station)
was the oldest establishment dating from colonial times, and the
school, which is still standing, dates back to 1825. The colonial
windmill built by the Jesuits, and the Pucará de Molla (fortress)
are its most outstanding landmarks.
