"Hugo Irureta Foundation" Museum of Fine Arts

The Hugo Irureta Foundation began its work in 1987, and the museum
was created simultaneously. The original collection comprised the
works of Irureta himself and those of other regional national and
foreign plastic artists. Amongst other works, there are paintings
by Líbero Badii, Carlos Cañas, Ricardo Carpani, Luis Centurión,
Enrique de Larrañaga, Luis Felipe Noé, Leopoldo Presas and Leo Vinci.
The aim of this museum is to promote art and culture in the northwest
of our country.
Tilcara
Tilcara is located on national route No. 9,84km. away from San Salvador
de Jujuy and 2,461m above sea level. This town was founded approximately
in the year 1600 and is characteristic of the "Quebrada" with its
"Collas" (Indians from the northwest) and its multicolored mountains.
The erection of its church began in 1797, but was only completed
in 1865. The entire area has a vast archaeological wealth, and its
main site is the "Pucará de Tilcara" (Pucará: fortress).
