Aimogasta is the capital of the department of Arauco and is
located 130km. away from the city of La Rioja on national
route No. 75.
It
lies on the last spurs of Sierra de Velasco and has large
olive plantations. The oldest olive tree in the country stands
very near the town of Arauco and dates back to the 17th century.
