Exhibits
include photographs, old fashioned weapons, paper money, coins and
uniforms worn during the war against Paraguay. In the Governor´s
Hall there is a painting of Chacho Peñaloza on whose pistol one
can clearly read the following words:"I belong to my general Peñaloza".
Amongst its most valuable exhibits, the museum harbors a collection
of furniture that belonged to Rosario Vera Peñaloza, including an
outstanding set of Florentine armchairs. There is also a coin minting
machine and a printing press. Also on exhibition are a shawl that
belonged to Felipe Varela's wife, a set of spurs that belonged to
Chacho Peñaloza, and a mirror that was a gift from Urquiza. The
glass cases contain imported porcelain, fans and gold and silver
objects. There are also archaeological pieces such as two clay images,
one representing a man and the other a woman, that date back to
4,000 years B. C.
La Rioja
The city of La Rioja, capital of the province with the same name,
lies at the foot of the Sierra de Velasco. The characteristic features
of a Spanish colonial city blend with an active and lively commercial
center. It is located 1,167km. away from the city of Buenos Aires
and lies 500m. above sea level. To reach this city one must travel
down national route No. 9 up to the city of Córdoba and then take
national route No. 38.
