On the Cuesta de Miranda, 161 Km separate Chilecito from the Cañón de Talampaya, which is 80 m wide at some points, with reddish walls almost 150 m high, where condors nest and where there are fascinating indian rock carvings.
The Cañón de Talampaya is one of the most spectacular natural wonders of Argentina. In some places the canyon is only 80 m wide with vertical walls of nearly 150 m. Condors look down from the heights; these enormous birds, ever watchful of visitors, fly down from their refuge and hover in the air. There are many strange rock formations like El Tablero de Ajedrez (The Chessboard), Los Balcones (The Balconies), Los Frailes (The Friars) or Los Reyes Magos (The Three Kings). You should pay a visit to La Ciudad Perdida (The Lost City) and see the pictographs sketched on the rocks by the indians.
