Don Juan de la Cruz Videla´s House

This house was built in 1840 and belonged to Juan de la Cruz Videla, an important farm owner and property owner of Maipú. The house was used as a shelter for the victims and survivors of the earthquake that occurred in 1861. It was also the seat of the headquarters of the 4th Regiment of National Guards, after which it housed a school and was also the administrative and political center of Maipú. The building has a large central rectangular courtyard surrounded by galleries. It has three domes and an upper floor above the main entrance. It was declared a National Historical Monument. The construction is only one story, high and covers 1,800sq.m. It has a magnificent neo-gothic oratory and its adobe walls are one meter thick.

Maipú
Maipú is at the doorway to the city of Mendoza, distant 18 km. from the capital. To get there one must take the expressway of the route that coincides with national route No.40 or the Southern Access - Juan José Paso Branch - that goes to Luján de Cuyo, where there is also a number of large wineries.
