When
General San Martín was organizing the Andes Army, there was a farm
close to the military camp at El Plumerillo that belonged to the
Segura family. There was an oratory on the farm where our national
hero and his officers attended services. The chapel was destroyed
by an earthquake in 1861. In 1870, the Segura family had a new chapel
erected with only one nave and a choir located in the mezzanine.
The walls are made of adobe and the gable roof is made of reeds
and mud. On the altar stand the images of the Virgin of Carmen de
Cuyo, the Virgin of the Sacred Heart and the Virgin of St. Michael
Archangel. The chair that San Martín used to sit on is preserved
inside the chapel. On either side of the altar are the urns containing
the remains of the members of the Segura family decorated with wreaths
made of glass beads and black pearls. Pascual Pedro Segura held
office as governor of the Cuyo region for four terms.

is 726m. above sea level. It can be reached by taking national route
No.4 or the Northern Access.
