This
museum comprises a single large hall devoted to national history.
It also harbors a departmental historical archive and a periodicals
and a newspaper library. Exhibits include fragments of a megathere
jaw found in San Luis; a painted leather bag sewn with strands of
ñandú (American ostrich) tendons used by the Indians to transport
seeds and beans, and regional lithic material including arrowheads
and scrapers. Also on display are a large variety, of stuffed animals,
weapons, old fashioned buttons and utensils for domestic use belonging
to the primitive local inhabitants.
