This
museum was created in 1940 and its two halls exhibit matetial pertaining
to aboriginal cultures such as the Guayaquí Guaraní, Chiripá and
Mbyá Indians. Also on display are objects dating from the times
of the Jesuits, weapons from the wars of independence and from the
war against Paraguay and zoological specimens of the region. Worthy
of mentioning are the funerary urns made of clay known by the name
of "Yapepo" which means "hand-made" in Guaraní. Another interesting
exhibit is a decapitated figure of the Virgin that came the Reduction
of the Apostles. This occurred because the invaders believed that
there were probably treasures hidden inside these statuettes. Also
on display is the front arcade of the church of the Reduction of
San Ignacio.
Posadas
The city of Posadas is the capital of the province of Misiones and
is located 1,060 km away from, the city of Buenos Aires. To get
there from Buenos Aires one must take national route No. 9 up to
its intersection with national route No. 14 and then travel down
this route towards the Notlh. Another alternative is to take national
route No. 12 that goes past the city of corrientes. Posadas lies
on the Paraná River and is 297 km. away from the province´s main
attraction: the Iguazú Falls, and 60 km away from the ruins of the
San Ignacio Miní Jesuitical Missions.
