This
museum comprases two halls devoted to archaeology. It was founded
by a Rumanian who brought some collections from Europe. Worthy of
mentioning are a censer from the reductions of San Ignacio (St Ignatius),
a Christ of patience and a maquette of Moses, supposedly an original
piece by Michelangelo. It also harbors a number of pieces from the
Guaraní and Jesuitical-Guaraní periods. Exhibits also include religious
imagery, candelabra, a stone bas-relief jesuitical column farm implements
enameled pottery, utensils and numerous documents.
San
Ignacio
San Ignacio is 59 km away from Posadas and can be reached down national
route No. 12. Its main attraction are the ruins of San Ignacio Miní
the best preserved Jesuitical Mission.
