Is one of the oldest towns in the province, because it was originated in a native reduction.

The 25 of July of 1615, Fray Luis Beltrán de Arenas took 250 guaraní natives from the Islands of the river Paraná to the place that the first governor criollo in the Río de la Plata, Hernando Arias de Saavedra, decided.

The name came from the location of the city, near the river, beacuse it was a place where the conquerors had often beached their boats without danger of failures.
