A fort established by the Spaniard Francisco de Viedma, in 1779, gave origin to Carmen de Patagones. It is over the River Negro, between ravines and a very nice neighbourhood.

There are conserved in the Temple parroquial two flags captured to the brazilian forces.

It is also a place where lobos marinos (marine wolves) find shelter.
