Posta
de Yatasto
Located
on km. 1,449 of national route No. 9
Tel. 087-215640 (belongs to the Historical Museum of Salta) Open
Tuesdays through Sundays from 9a.m. to 5p.m.
This landmark forms part of the Museological Complex of the North
and belongs to the Historical Museum of the North (based in the
city of Salta). The Finca de Yatasto is part of the farmhouse that
originally belonged to Don Francisco Toledo Pimentel. According
to the inscription on the lintel above the door, the house was rebuilt
in 1784.
At present, only part of the building remains. There are four rooms
on the ground floor and one on the upper floor that is reached by
a wooden staircase inside the house. Its walls are made of adobe
and are plastered and whitewashed. It can be taken as a typical
example of a country dwelling for a wealthy family during colonial
times. The sole room on the upper floor allowed a greater visual
control of the surrounding area. It was in this room that General
Belgrano and Juan Martín de Pueyrredón met in 1812, as did Belgrano
with San Martín and General Martín Miguel de Güemes, a leader of
the people of Salta, in 1814. Exhibits include furniture and 18th-century
objects that reproduce the atmosphere of a period country home.
Metán
The city of Metán is an important farming center located on national
route No. 9, 140km. away from the city of Salta. Fourteen kilometers
away from the city stands the Posta de Yatasto (Yatasto post station),
which has been declared a National Historic Monument.
