The area surrounding General Mosconi abounds in pucarás (fortresses)
where potsherds and carved stones have been found and are believed
to be parts of objects for everyday use. Human remains have also
been found in the antigales (Inca cemeteries) existing in the area.
The archaeological material on display dates back to between 500
and 2,000 years. The remains of a mastodon, a megathere jaw and
a glyptodont plate have been found in the area. The species exhibited
belong mostly to the quaternary period. This museum was created
in 1994 thanks to the research work carried out by Dante Tejada
Aparicio who directed the General Mosconi expeditionary group that
made the most important discoveries.
