halls. Amongst the objects on exhibition there are Indian axes,
vestiges of arrows, plates and small pots and urns. The objects
on display were basically used in everyday life. The pieces were
gathered in an Indian cemetery 3km. away from Angastaco.
Angastaco
Angastaco lies 245km. away from the city of Salta traveling down
Provincial route No. 33 and then switching to national route No.
40. Located 2,000m above sea level, it was primitively an Indian
settlement. It is situated at the confluence of the rivers Angastaco
and Calchaquí. Its architecture belongs to the primitive Spanish
period, and a noteworthy feature is its old church standing on the
way out of the town. Following route No. 40 up to San Carlos, the
road runs through the Quebrada de las Flechas, a geological formation
dating from the tertiary period.
