is one of the oldest villages in the area. It is an important archaeological
site discovered by Eric Boman in 1903. According to studies carried
out later, the site was a former settlement comprising 440 dwellings
inhabited by 2,200 Indians of the Andean and Pampean races who lived
there between 1336 and 1439 A.D,. This pre-Incan city is located
100km, away from Salta and lies 3,200m. above sea level at the top
of some hills covering an area of 12 hectares where there are remains
of dwellings, winding little roads, open spaces, garbage dumps,
in addition to a large number of ceramic, metal, stone, bone and
wooden objects, woven fabrics and plant fibers. There are also petroglyphs
made for magical-religious purposes.
