• SALTA "THE BEAUTIFUL"
Its name comes from the Aymará word sagta meaning "the very beautiful one". The city has the best preserved colonial architecture in the country. The city's most significative buildings are grouped around the central square: the Cathedral, the Cabildo or Town Council which houses the Museo Histórico del Norte, the Museo Colonial, and the Museo de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts).
The church of San Francisco has one of the tallest church towers in America (53m) and the Convento de San Bernardo now belongs to the Carmelite Order.
• EL TREN A LAS NUBES - "THE TRAIN TO THE CLOUDS"
This famous train runs from April to November. The route first crosses the Valle de Lerma and passes through the Quebrada del Toro and then climbs up to the Puna. The climax of this trip is when the trains reaches 4,182m above sea level and passes over the giant iron viaduct called La Polvorilla.

• THE CULTURE OF THE CARDÓN
In the Parque Nacional Los Cardones you will find the cardón, a species of cactus that can grow to over 6m in height. Its woody stem was used by the indians of the region to thatch their houses.

• VALLES CALCHAQUÍES
This enormous expanse of land offers breath-taking scenery, history and singular architecture which can be found in villages like Molinos, Seclantás or Cachi.

• THE NATIONAL PARKS: EL REY AND BARITÚ
Both these parks are in mountainous areas with a wide variety of subtropical flora and fauna.
