The
sea operates in the caves and tunnels made in 1923 as part of a
gold mine where immigrants from Yugoslavia worked. It was founded
in 1984 and harbors over 12,000 pieces. It specializes in geographic,
natural and anthropological sciences. Exhibits include, Indian skeletons,
stone knives, polished axes and a flute made of stone. It also harbors
a collection of invertebrates such as starfishes and puffers and
vertebrates such as herons and peacock skeletons.
One of its most interesting pieces is the fossil of a fish-shaped
marine reptile that is over 150 million years old and 25-million-year-old-crab
from the Lower Miocene. There are also numerous objects belonging
to different Argentine, Central and South American Indian cultures.
Rivadavia
The city of Rivadavia lies only 6km. away from the provincial capital
along Benavídez Ave. that is the continuation of provincial route
No.12.
