Its eight halls are devoted to archaeology. Noteworthy exhibits
include a 500-year-old mummy discovered in the Cerro del Toro, a
wooden shield inlaid with malachite belonging to the Angualasto
culture (1200-1600); arrowheads dating from 6,500 years before Christ
and numerous pieces of Incaic culture. The museum operates in the
School of Philosophy, Humanities and Art and was founded in 1965
by Professor Mariano Gambier. It is a very modern museum equipped
with the technology required for information and preservation purposes.
Each of its halls is devoted to a different culture.

Laja
La Laja is distant 25km. from the city of San Juan and belongs to
the department of Albardón. To get there one must travel along national
route No.40 up to Albardón and then cover 18km. along provincial
route No.102, also known as La Laja Ave.
