of St. Joseph of Jáchal

Open every day from 8 to 12 a.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.
This building was declared a National Historical Monument. It harbors
an image of St. Joseph, the towns patron saint that was brought
from (the Viceroyalty of) Upper Peru in 1690. It also harbors an
image of Infant Christ and one of Christ on the Cross dating from
the 18th century. The building was inaugurated in 1878 and its walls
are 1.20 m. thick. It was here that the townspeople and authorities
swore under oath to defend the independence declared in Tucumán
in 1816 and the Constitution sanctioned in Santa Fe in 1853.
