This
complex comprises a museum, three auditoriums, a "pulpería" [a typical
Latin American store combining the sale of grocery and other products
and the sale and consumption of alcoholic drinks], a chapel where
the Virgin of Luján is worshipped and an amphitheater. It houses
a unique collection of vehicles drawn by animal traction which is
one of a kind worldwide. Exhibits include a Vagón flat cart dating
from 1880, a flat cart from Buenos Aires dating from 1875, flat
carts used for heavy farm work and the whole line of four-seater
carriages produced between 1890 and 1927. There is also an ambulance
dating from 1925 and a water cart from 1872.
Also on display is a bust of the painter Molino Campos (there are
only three in the world). The museum exhibits all sorts of farming
implements used in the 19th century. All the pieces on show are
original and still work. The "Doña Esterofilda Pulpería " is the
last of these stores that existed in San Luis and is decorated with
period articles such as bottles, sanitary implements and a Victrola.
This is a private museum that was declared of municipal, provincial,
national and international (by the UNESCO in Paris) interest. Seminars
with writers are held in the auditoriums as well as folkloric shows.
This Complex is also the venue for the yearly celebration of Tradition
Week.
