Museums

• SAN LUIS, THE CAPITAL
This capital preserves the aspect of the inner Argentinean cities of the 19th century: old colonial houses, shady courtyards and a peaceful atmosphere. Here, the Museo Provincial has archeological, mineralogical and palaentological exhibits.
• PARQUE NACIONAL SIERRA LAS QUIJADAS
These sierras form part of a semi-arid region of spectacular geological characteristics and reddish coloured landscape. On the western non-mountainous edge of this park lie a series of lagoons which flow into the Desaguadero. The Potrero de la Aguada is a central depression enclosed by walls which have been eroded into fantastic shapes. This park has a large variety of animals, some in danger of extinction: guanacos, foxes, rheas, pumas and condors. The vegetation is mainly spiny shrubs and cacti.
  • LAS GRUTAS DE INTI-HUASI
This was an ancient indigenous settlement.

• THE VOLCANO AT SIERRA DEL MORRO
This large volcano has a crater named Potrero del Morro of 4km which has peculiar rock formations.
At the foot of this sierra lies the town of San José del Morro.

• Other places of interest
Merlo, an important tourist centre. La Toma at whose foot is an onyx quarry with a great number of artisans who work this green marble.
