"Andrés
Chazarreta" Home-Museum
Mitre
127
Tel. 085-211905
Open Mondays through Fridays from 4 to 8p.m.
This
museum functions in the house where don Andrés Chazarreta lived
all his life until his death. The original construction is
120 years old and was declared a National Historic Monument. Part
of the house was a wedding gift from his brother who was a master
builder. His four children were born here, and it was in this haven
that don Andrés devoted all his life to the study of folklore. Amongst
the many exhibits on display is his school-teacher degree, his first
guitar the first RCA Víctor recording of a waltz titled "Santiago
del Estero".
Chazarreta traveled around the country and then dedicated a waltz
to each province. There is also an 80-year-old Victrola with one
of the first wooden horns manufactured in the country; drums used
for playing vidalas, bombos legueros (large drums that could be
heard a league (legua) away), and countless expressions of royalty
and friendship. Counting both compilations and his own works, Chazarreta
filed 395 pieces for record in SADAIC (National corporation that
protects the rights of writers and composers).
Santiago
del Estero
This is the oldest surviving city founded by the Spaniards. It is
located on the river Dulce, 1,042km. away from the city of Buenos
Aires, on national route No. 9 and 187m. above sea level. In addition
to its museums, one can also visit its cathedral, the first diocese
in the country dating back to 1876, Libertad Park, Aguirre Park,
the Convent of Santo Domingo where the Holy Sheet is exhibited,
and the Church of La Merced.
