This
institution functions in the English style station of the former
Central Argentine railway line that was built in 1889. It houses
the Museum of Fine Arts with an important collection of works by
Argentine artists; the "Lázaro Criado" Historical Archives; the
Julio Argentino Gerez Museum of Nativism which exhibits regional
and urban handiwork, and an area devoted to Natural and Paleontologic
Sciences containing a display of the animals that inhabit the plains
of Santiago del Estero and other species that became extinct thousands
of years ago.
This museological unit also includes the "Sebastián López" Cultural
and Historical Library that houses many books dating back to the
late 19th century and the early 20th century.
La
Banda
The city of La Banda is only 8km. away from the city of Santiago
del Estero and, because of its proximity, is closely linked to the
life of the capital city. To get there one must take the Juan Domingo
Perón highway down Necochea street.
